We are excited to announce our next exhibition, Glimpse. This exhibition features the works of first-year CVPA graduate students including, Yaren Yildiz, Immer Cook, Ali Masoumzadeh, Kofoworola Adebiyi, Arghavan Booye, and Sara Valinezhad.
This exhibition traditionally took place during the fall semester as a welcome to incoming graduate students. However due to the sudden closure of the Star Store last year’s exhibition was canceled. Despite the challenges posed by the closure, the Star Store Student Collective has taken the initiative to bring the Glimpse Exhibition back, shining a spotlight on the talents of the featured artists and offering viewers a unique glimpse into their vibrant worlds through art.
Join us on January 26th from 6-8 PM for our opening reception. Glimpse Exhibition will run from
Exhibition dates: January 26 - February 8
Location: 65 Williams Street, NB
Some highlights from our opening last night! Thank you to everyone who came to support us. We are happy to be back in downtown New Bedford and can’t wait to do more events moving forward.
In addition to the opening of Star Store No More show, please join us for a candlelight vigil at 5:00!
Join us on December 14th for the “Star Store No More” opening. This exhibition features works by current ceramic MFA graduates Anis Beigzadeh, Fallon Navarro, and Marilyn Perry. In response to the abrupt removal from Star Store and the ongoing loss of equipment and facilities, this exhibition is proof of resilience and transformation in the face of adversity. We invite everyone to talk with us, explore the art, and be part of the conversation surrounding art’s vital role in enriching our community.
Tomorrow 12:45 ‼️
Tune in and listen to MFA student @fallon_navarro discuss the impact of the Star Store's closure and the difficulties students continue to face with Jack Spillane on Boston Public Radio with Jim Braude and Margery Eagan.
Come by Hatch Street Studios today (10-5pm) and tomorrow (11-5pm) to see some of our work for sale, Room 207!
Thank you, Representative @staterephendricks for supporting CVPA students! No one is getting the education we have paid for, and our calls for accountability have gone unanswered. Students and faculty have had to engineer makeshift classrooms, arrange alternative studios, and get materials and equipment without the University’s assistance.
As we reach the middle of the fall semester, despite promises from @umassd Bed Bath & Beyond is STILL not set up as a functioning studio with the necessary equipment.
➡️ No kilns (electric or gas)
➡️ No clay or glaze mixing
➡️ Can’t support painting studios (no ventilation)
➡️ Students must get pre approval before using ANY material (even acrylic paint)
What are we even paying tuition for at this point? @umassdcvpa students deserve better!
We are in downtown New Bedford for @dnbinc Fall Fest. Come stop by and get candy! 🍬
Last week, the New Bedford Light's 'The Chat' with Jack Spillane brought together former New Bedford mayors John Bullard and Scott Lang, former city planner Richard Walega, and 3rd year MFA candidate Fallon Navarro to discuss the impact the Star Store's closure has had on students and the NB community. Here is a clip from the panel discussion.

UMass Dartmouth MFA students address Gov. Maura Healy, asking for her help in advocating for the nearly 200 students displaced by the Star Store’s sudden closure and denied the education they are paying for. #SaveTheStarStore #ArtImpactsAll
On September 22nd, the UMassD CVPA grad students issued a letter to express our concern for our program, facilities, and education. Students are paying tuition and not receiving anything close to what we were promised. As of yet, we have not received a response from administration about our letter, and it has proven impossible to receive any communication from our own chancellor, Mark Fuller. We ask for financial reimbursement, proper facilities, post-graduate support, and all together increased support for the displaced students. Last night, painting students were notified that the new facilities in the former Bed, Bath, and Beyond would not be able to hold their program, yet again delaying studio spaces. As the days progress, little progress is being made and students are not receiving the education they are paying for. This Friday, October 6th at 4pm on UMassD’s main campus, there will be a second rally, calling for support to stand up for the arts, for the New Bedford community, and for these CVPA students. Please come and support the cause and let UMassD know this is not ok. #ArtImpactsAll #savethestarstore
Join us Friday, October 6th, to advocate for the arts and education! Collectively we can make our voices heard.
Since our sudden and traumatic departure from the Star Store building, UMass Dartmouth has continued to ignore student and faculty requests, resulting in a failure to provide a functioning studio. We have been without facilities and equipment for almost 4 weeks now and there has still been no concrete timeline provided. Ceramic graduate students were informed that they will not even have electric kilns for at least another 3 weeks. This continued loss has been extremely detrimental to our education and directly contradicts promises made by the university. We feel that we paying tuition and class fees for facilities and services we don’t even have anymore.
#savethestarstore #artimpactsall
We are now on to the second week of the semester and students are still waiting on having studio access to do their studies, with no clear answer of when that will be sorted. This is pushing us behind and not giving us the proper facilities we signed up for when coming here. This is not what we are paying for. Beyond unacceptable. #SaveTheStarStore
Yesterday was supposed to be the start of the new semester, a time filled with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming year. However, the day before, we learned that our new facilities (Bed Bath & Beyond) wouldn’t be ready for at least another two weeks. Without a clear timeline, we’re once again left in limbo, unable to make concrete plans to move forward. Our faculty have been working to support us and minimize the negative impact that the sudden closure of the Star Store is having on students. However, they can only do so much when the @umassd administration fails to provide information.
If you are BEYOND upset like we are, swipe to see how you can help!
